Plates and Plate Sets for Your Laid Table
Whether for daily lunch, a set breakfast table, or a dinner party with guests: at SÄNGER, you'll find plates and plate sets made of porcelain and stoneware. Choose between dinner plates, dessert plates, soup plates, and deep pasta plates. Different colors, shapes, and set sizes help you select plates that match your existing tableware and household.
Choosing the right plate sets
A plate set contains several similar plates and is therefore well-suited for a uniform table setting. Depending on the product, you will find sets with four or six pieces, as well as occasional individual plates. Before buying, check the quantity, diameter, shape, and rim height. This way, you can determine if the plates match your meals and existing crockery.
If you're looking for various tableware pieces in a coordinated set, our dinnerware sets offer complete compilations for several people. A larger selection of plates, bowls, cups, and services is available in the Tableware category.
Porcelain or earthenware?
Porcelain usually appears smooth, clear, and rather delicate. It fits well with a classic or understated table setting. Earthenware often has a more robust surface and can appear more vibrant due to glazes, color gradients, and slight differences between individual pieces.
Which variant is better suited therefore depends not only on the look. Weight, shape, and the other tableware pieces also play a role. Our categories Porcelain Dinnerware and Earthenware Dinnerware will help you make your choice.
Plates for different dishes
Dinner plates are the classic choice for main courses. Smaller dessert plates are suitable for cakes, breakfast, appetizers, or side dishes. Soup plates have a raised rim and offer space for soups, stews, and dishes with sauce. Pasta plates are usually wider and deeper. This allows them to also serve bowls, salads, or risotto.
If you need several types of plates together, a dinner service might be more sensible than buying individual plate sets.
Combining colors and shapes
White, beige, and cream-colored plates are easy to combine with existing crockery. Dark colors or striking glazes create a stronger accent on the table. Green, gray, black, or multi-colored plate sets can also work well if individual color tones are repeated in bowls, cups, or table textiles.
The plates do not have to look completely identical. The crucial thing is that the material, shape, or color can be found elsewhere on the table.
Frequently Asked Questions About Plates and Plate Sets
For many households, flat dinner plates, deep plates, and smaller dessert plates are sufficient to start with. The right number depends on the size of the household and how often guests eat with you.
Porcelain is usually finer, smoother, and lighter. Stoneware often appears more robust and is frequently characterized by visible glazes and individual surfaces.
Dinner plates are usually larger than dessert or breakfast plates. For specific choices, you should check the dimensions on the respective product page. It is also important whether the plates fit into your kitchen cabinets and dishwasher.
A set is useful if you need several plates of the same kind. Individual plates are more suitable for targeted additions. At SÄNGER, individual items are only available for selected series.
Please note the care instructions on the respective product page. For plates with special glazes, you should also avoid rubbing them strongly against each other when stacking.
